Country Fair was Fun!

Our Country Fair was held on Saturday, May 5th from 10am to 1pm at the library to wrap up our Spring Read program. This year's Spring Read was E.B. White's "Charlotte's Web" so we wanted to present a country fair to tie in with the theme in the story. Tents dotted our front lawn and under each we had marvelous things like food concessions, a baking contest, arts & crafts, and more. There were games with prizes for kids and parents. We displayed the winning coloring contest entries and had a sign to honor our essay contest winners. We were so lucky that the weather was mild!

There were raffle opportunities available. The Friends of the Library donated those proceeds to the Salem Animal Rescue League.

The baking contest theme was "Delicious Desserts" and here are the results:

Baking Contest -- there were 13 dishes entered; a variety of desserts including brownies, pie, fudge, cookies, cake, and banana bread.
The winners are:
1) Most Creative - Fran Pruett for "Black Bottoms"
2) Second Place - Ginny Morris for Chocolate Fingers
2) Grand Prize, "Best in Show" - the Goyette family for Chocolate Chip Cheesecake.

Highlights of the fair included the animals from 4H (goats, dogs, a miniature pony), Wilbur the stuffed pig, Rocky the SARL mascot dog, and the HFD ladder truck with Lt. Eric Lafrancis and Caitlyn Lafrancis. It was terrific to have participation from the Friends of the Library, the Garden Club and the Mothers' Club. Peter LaPointe & the Lions Club were also fantastic with their loan of the tents and the help setting up and taking down the tents. The volunteers and the people who came to enjoy the event made it all worth while.

Please enjoy these pictures from the fair!
