Infamous Book Display

Visit the second floor of the library to check out our latest display of books.
This month we have a collection  from well-known gangsters like Whitey Bulger to the students from Harvard who counted cards in Las Vegas.

We are featuring books about people more known for their shame rather than their glory!
Any of the books may be checked out as usual.

QUARTZ DISPLAY

Quartz is an unusual mineral.  In its crystalline state it is piezoelectric, meaning that is produces a current if struck or mechanically deformed and changes shape if an oscillating electric current is applied.
This property makes it an important mineral to the telephone and electronic industry for frequency control.
During the early days of telephone, all quartz plates were made of natural quartz that was mainly imported from Brazil.
Bell Laboratories began an investigation into the possibility of developing a substitute material.  This effort led to the joint development program between Bell Labs and Western Electric, the result of which led to the design of the hydrothermal growing vessels that produced cultured quartz.

Stop by the quartz display located on the 2nd floor of the library.

Town of Hampstead Quilt

A very special quilt is currently exhibited at the Hampstead Public Library, courtesy of Hampstead crafter, Doreen Ayers.  This 70” x 86” quilt is a tribute to the Town of Hampstead, and can be found on the library’s second floor near the Nonfiction section.

Inspired by an "America the Beautiful” pattern she found in a McCall’s Quilting magazine, Doreen gathered a variety of materials in reds, blues, golds, and greens to create her Hampstead quilt.  On it you can find landmarks such as Town Hall, a school, Ordway Park, the Meeting House, the Police Station, and the library with the Storybook Garden.

Doreen Ayers has been quilting for several years and often meets with a local group of quilters.  She is also an active member of the Hampstead Garden Club.

Please take the time to visit the Hampstead Public Library’s second floor and view Doreen’s beautiful creation.
